recordings

Over the years I have performed music in many different settings and genres, ranging from the Western orchestra to the jazz quartet to the three-chord punk band. A typical semester at Cornell found me practicing and performing with around four or five groups, among them the wind ensemble, trombone ensemble, big band, small-group jazz combo, ad hoc "gigging" jazz quartets around town, local funk/soul band The Continental, local ska/punk/rock band Agent Double O Zero, or other various groups, recitals, or concerts. These recordings should help to illustrate that. They are in MP3 format.

    I Mean You
    (Round About) 'Round About Midnight
Recordings taken from the Monk Reconsidered concert, a one-time concert put together by the professor of ethnomusicology in April 2001 to celebrate the music of Thelonius Monk. An impromptu group dubbed the "Cornell Jazz All-Stars" performed the show, taking works by Monk and arranging/interpreting them in unusual and unexpected ways.
I Mean You is a 3/4 funk, 4/4 swing adaptation conceived by me. The head is introduced in messy plunger style on the A section, and straight-ahead swing in the B section.
(Round About) 'Round About Midnight is a latin arrangement of the Monk standard, layering atop it the melody to Insensitiv by Jobim. The track opens with an introduction (stating the Insensitiv melody in multiphonics) by me on trombone.

    Rainy Day Song

A duet between guitar and trombone, recorded at the end of a long day spent recording with funk/soul band The Continental. Peter Gerakaris on guitar and myself on trombone.

    For You

A reggae song recorded by ska/punk/rock band Agent Double O Zero. I have a solo following the break about 2/3 of the way into the song.
