to china

flying to shanghai tomorrow, so lately i've been super-busy trying to tie up loose ends (mostly at work) before i leave.

also, it's grad school decision time (due april 15); perhaps it'll be good to get away from it all and think about things from the other side of the earth. providence, urbana, and austin were all nicer than i expected; this will be hard. can't think about this anyway, gotta pack etc. hopefully by the next post i'll have some nice shanghai soup buns in me.

finally: just caught up on the latest from buddy elana in afghanistan -- i'd really recommend her blog, it's a must-read for me now.

the gig, off to providence

the gig went pretty well. i was surprised to find myself walking bass lines faster than ever before. that's the good thing about learning a new instrument: every time you play, you're better than you remembered. sadly it's the opposite with trombone; a lot more practice is required to get back the chops i had in college. hmm. that's a lot of practicing, and i am pretty lazy.

no time to think about think about music, though: march is grad school visitation month. going to providence this weekend, urbana the next, and austin the week after that. then once back from texas, off to play tour-guide for my family on their first visit to china (beijing and shanghai) for 10 days (with a stop in hong kong on my way back). in short, i'm a jet-setting fool.

gig on sunday

the conversation won't stop while we play, so feel free to come down and
have some food and listen to some funky dinner jazz, i guess. i'll be the shy one with the trombone and bass in hand.
